Connect one verified path at a time.
Explore the named components and standardized signal flow, then use Source Check to verify exact physical pins, values, and topology before applying power.
Trace this circuit.
Home Automation using Google Firebase & NodeMCU ESP8266: interactive parts, standardized terminals, responsive anchored wires, student explanations, and the original circuit reference in one shared system.
Trace before wiring
Follow power, ground, inputs, processing, and outputs in that order. Never guess a pin from package shape alone.
Connect with power off
Make short, labelled connections and share a common ground only where the schematic requires it.
Inspect every joint
Check continuity, polarity, adjacent shorts, and loose connections before the first power-up.
Open all source diagrams and build views 3 visuals

Confirm the hardware-only control path.
This project does not include firmware in the source. The circuit itself provides the required behaviour.
How to connect
- Match every controller label to the circuit view and source pin map.
- Join grounds before signal wires when separate low-voltage supplies are used.
- Keep motors, relays, pumps, and other loads on a suitable driver and external supply.
Common mistakes
Reversed VCC/GND, board-label versus GPIO-number confusion, missing common ground, and charge-only USB cables.
Troubleshoot
Disconnect loads, continuity-test one path at a time, then test with a current limit.
Software preparation
No IDE, board package, library, or firmware upload is required for this project.
If you add a programmable controller as an extension, document its pin map separately.
How to upload code
The original design is implemented entirely in hardware, so proceed after verifying the circuit and supply.
Assemble, deploy, test, and troubleshoot.
Use the complete source notes in build order, then pass the final checks before calling the project finished.
Build in functional stages
- Power and regulation
- Controller or processing stage
- Inputs and sensors
- Outputs and loads
- Enclosure and strain relief
Power up safely
- Inspect unpowered continuity first
- Apply the lowest safe current limit
- Measure supply rails before signals
- Add one load at a time
- Record expected and actual results
Work from simple to complex
- Confirm power, ground, polarity, and orientation
- Compare each pin with the source
- Test inputs separately from outputs
- Replace only one variable at a time
- Power off before every correction
Follow the documented instructions.
These notes come from this project's source and remain in their original order.
Project overview
Project build noteIn this project, we will learn how to use Google Firebase and NodeMCU ESP8266 to make an IoT-based home automation project. Home
Automation Project is one of the most common and well-known hobby projects you will find on the internet. When we say "Home Automation," we mean that home appliances can be controlled without a switch. Home devices are an important part of the Internet of Things ("IoT") Application when they are connected to the Internet. We've already learned how to use the Blynk Application, WebServer, Amazon Alexa, Arduino IoT cloud, and AWS IoT Core to automate our homes. But we will use Google Firebase for this project. Google Firebase is software for making apps that is backed by Google. It can be used to create, manage, and change data from any Android or iOS app, web service, IoT sensor, or hardware. To find out more about the Google Firebase Console, type "/OFF" as "1/0" from the app. Google Firebase gets the information from the app. Now, the data from Google Firebase is updated on the NodeMCU Board through the Internet. So, the digital GPIO pins go high and low, which turns on and off the devices that are connected to the relay.
We will use MIT APP Inventor to make an Android app for home automation. We will link the Android app to Google Firebase by using the Firebase Host and Authentication Key. Then, we'll send the ON/OFF command from App as 1/0. Google Firebase gets the information from the app. Now, the data from Google Firebase is updated on the NodeMCU Board through the Internet. So, the digital GPIO pins go high and low, which turns on and off the devices that are connected to the relay.

With this circuit diagram, you can put together the circuit on a Breadboard using a 4-channel relay and a NodeMCU board.
Designing & Setting Up Android Application Now we have to make an Android app that can send information to Google Firebase. Using MIT App Inventor is the easiest way to make an Android app. With the MIT APP Inventor, you can make apps for Android phones by using a web browser and a connected phone or an emulator. The App Inventor servers save your work and help you keep track of your projects. I just made an interface for a project on home automation using Google Firebase. The app has 4 pairs of ON/OFF switches to send the 0 and 1 commands to Google Firebase. You need to put the Firebase Host and Authentication Token in the App database when you are making the App. To do this, watch the video below and do what it says. Build or compile the app and then send it to your Android phone. The APK file can be put on your phone.
Here is the.aia file for this app. You can import this file into the MIT App Inventor window and change it by changing the Host and Token to the Database. Adding Firebase & JSON Library to Arduino IDE 1. ArduinoJSON Library, so first, go to the library manager and search for "JSON." Then, install the library. Note: The code might not work with the latest JSON library. So, you might need to go back to version v5.13.5 of the library. 2. The Google FirebaseExtended Library, you must now also install the Google Firebase library Home Automation using Google Firebase & ESP8266 The NodeMCU will connect to the WiFi Network after the code is uploaded. Using the Firebase Authentication Token & Host, both the Nodemcu Board and the Android App can connect to Google Firebase.
Now you can send ON/OFF commands from your mobile app to your home appliances to turn them on or off.
You built Home Automation using Google Firebase & NodeMCU ESP8266.
You followed the full workflow from understanding the mission to testing the finished project. That is a real engineering achievement - well done.
